Oklahoma is the only state with an official state meal, and the ballot borrows from it. Chicken-Fried Steak under cream gravy and Fried Okra are written in. The Onion Burger smashes its onions into the patty on the griddle. Smoked Bologna gets called Oklahoma prime rib without irony, and Calf Fries are cattle-country festival food. Tribal kitchens carry Indian Tacos, Grape Dumplings, and Cherokee Bean Bread. Chili Pie and Oklahoma Fried Pies finish in paper. What Oklahoma is famous for is smashed onto a griddle or smoked all day. So what is Oklahoma's official state dish? The ballot is open until November 1.
